Beyond the Keys (Johnsonverse)

Beyond the Keys is a 2018 fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, directed by Brian Fee in his directorial debut and written by Chloe Johnson and Jeffrey M. Howard, based on an original idea by the former. It stars Jon Cryer, Bonnie Hunt, Carol Burnett, Brad Garrett, William Shatner, and Patton Oswalt. The film follows a medieval-era peasant who discovers a series of golden keys that unlock certain powers, while an aristocrat is out to get him for committing crimes to support his family.

The film began life as a Cars spin-off called Planes; during the acquisition of Disney by Johnson Industries, production stalled, and the film was eventually canceled once the acquisition was closed. The film re-entered production as a fantasy movie in 2014.

Released on November 22, 2018 at the San Jose Theatre and worldwide five days later, the film was critically acclaimed for its powerful story and animation.
