In 1985, Shiro was hired to act as an extra in an episode of Tales from the Rails as a passenger on the screen locomotive Baldwin 2-8-0 #1472. After appearing as an extra and as recurring characters for several years, he then appeared in the 1990 film Star Pirates as the character Shaw, in his first major appearance.
