Toy Story (series) (Johnsonverse)
|
Toy Story is an American computer-animated series based on the franchise of the same name by Pixar Animation Studios. It has run since June 15, 2019, and is the second television series based on the franchise, as well as the first series to have the direct involvement of Pixar.
A continuation of the film trilogy (1995-2010), the series follows the adventures of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and their friends, all of whom are toys belonging to a five-year-old girl named Bonnie Anderson.
Production began in 2014 after developer Tim Johnson rejected the idea of a fourth Toy Story film. With one of the largest budgets for a Netflix series, the first season was released on June 15, 2019 to critical acclaim.

Development
In 2014, rumors of a fourth Toy Story movie began surfacing. Tim Johnson rejected the rumors, stating that while a fourth movie had been pitched, he rejected it, feeling it would be an "unnecessary cash-grab". He instead conceived a television series for a 2019 release window, along with a sequel to A Bug's Life.
