Trevor James Simpson (b. December 31, 1949) is an American mass media mogul, author, philanthropist, actor, and director.

Simpson is best known as the CEO of Orange Roof Corporation, a mass-media conglomerate, as well as performing Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on the children’s television show Sesame Street since its 1969 debut, and hosting several game shows, including The Price is Right, among other jobs. In addition, he hosted his own afternoon talk show, The Trevor J. Simpson Show, from January 25, 1987 to February 1, 2004.

Early life

Simpson’s first TV commercial for Wheels, Flutes and Crowns was produced in 1966, but never aired. In the commercial, Simpson performed the Wheel Stealer, whose design was later used for Cookie Monster on Sesame Street. Later on, Simpson occasionally filled in for Frank Oz as the body of the La Choy Dragon in commercials for La Choy in the mid-1960s.

Simpson’s big break came in 1969, when he was cast as Big Bird and Oscar on the children’s show Sesame Street.

Personal life

Political views

Simpson has gone on record as stating that he has no loyalty to any political party; he also never reveals who he votes for on the grounds that it would divide his audience.

Simpson attracted controversy in 2016 when he criticized the antifa movement. He also controversially criticized social justice warriors, an internet group.

Awards and honors

In 1994, Simpson was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as Big Bird, followed by a star as himself in 1999. Between 1980 and 2018, he won 18 Academy Awards, and 22 Golden Globes.
